Could not agree more. I have been the direct report who saw the one-on-one meeting invite accepted it, got excited, and had notes for the call just for it to be cancelled minutes before the call was scheduled. 😕 I understand that my manager has a lot going on but getting that cancelled invite does not feel great. If you do have to move the one one-on-one instead of cancelling 👉 send an updated meeting invite 📅 proposing a new time and or day. This will signal to your direct report that you do want to meet and are making an effort to keep it on your calendar.

To be successful in recruiting, whether in-house and on the agency-side, you need to be a tactician. Throwing **** over the fence to see what sticks does not separate you from the pack. Deeply understanding role requirements, technology stacks, team structure, personality fit, etc. does. The best recruiters take the time to tirelessly review profiles and hand-select the "right" people to present. Defining what "right" looks like for each customer is probably the most challenging part of a recruiter's job. It varies customer to customer, it encompasses more than just what is written on a resume, and it intrinsically requires you to be human (be a good listener, be empathetic, etc.). Be honest with your customer and tell them that you're a tactician. The extra time it takes to identify that rockstar could save them months of headache for selecting the wrong person. They will thank you for it.

Ok, apparently being in CSM sucks right now. CSMs are burning out left and right and CSM leaders last only 18 months on average. There are 4 things you can do about it: 1. Resign immediately and check if the grass is greener at a different company. 2. Pivot out of CSM and check if life in Marketing, Sales, PM, etc. is better. 3. Do more of the same and wait for the inevitable to happen.  4. Try to find a solution that is both healthy and creates the expected results.  I’m all for the last option. Are you with me?

💡 Reconsidering Time Zones in Remote Hiring 💡 Recruiters - Ever find yourself screening out candidates based on the assumption that their time zone may not align well with your hiring team’s schedule? When your ATS is flooded with hundreds or thousands of applications, I get why that might seem like a helpful way to narrow things down, but this approach could lead you to miss out on landing your ideal candidate! I’d love to share my story to encourage you to reconsider and seek alternative filtering methods... While I live on Eastern Time, I’ve designed my routines to be adaptable to different schedules. My morning exercise and meditation practices set me up for peak performance, whether I’m starting my day on Pacific, Eastern, or any other time zone. With an easy-going partner and no dependents to tend to, I can shift my start time with hardly any notice, and working what some might consider “late” hours is more than doable - it actually creates a highly satisfying work-life balance! 🙌 But you won't find that info on a resume... So - What if a quick chat with a candidate revealed a setup that works beautifully for both parties? 🏆🏆 Many of us have schedules and life circumstances that make an “off” time zone the perfect fit. I coach AEs  for fun. And seriously it is a TON of fun! I love seeing their potential surface and shine. I recently met with an AE  in the cyber security space that was using Demandbase AI to find and engage buying groups at his target accounts, but he was hitting some roadblocks and wanted to level up his strategy. Here is how the convo went. AE: I’m using the intent data to identify companies researching cybersecurity topics, but I feel like I could do more and feel like I am solutioning to soon. COACH: I hear you. Intent data is great for identifying interest, but to really drive the conversation, you need to tie that interest back to a clear business problem and show how the solution solves it. Let’s start with an example. Say you notice an account is showing intent around “ransomware protection.” How do you typically approach that? AE:  I usually reach out with something like, “I see you’re looking into ransomware protection. Our cybersecurity software offers advanced threat detection that can help protect your business.” COACH: That’s a good start, but we want to frame it more around their specific needs and the risks they’re likely facing. For example, if they’re researching ransomware, they’re probably concerned about preventing costly breaches or downtime. How can we position our solution to solve *those* problems? AE: So instead of just saying we have a solution, I should say something like, “I noticed your team is exploring ransomware protection. Many companies in your industry are worried about the operational and financial risks of a ransomware attack. How are you currently protecting your business from these threats?” COACH:  Exactly. Now you’re making it about them. You’re not just pitching a product; you’re positioning it as a solution to a real pain point—whether it’s protecting sensitive customer data, avoiding costly downtime, or ensuring business continuity. AE: Right. I’m focusing on the problem they’re trying to solve, not just the features of our software. COACH:   Yes, and that’s the core of consultative selling. With the Demandbase Intent data, you can take it even further. If you know they’re researching not only ransomware but also “cloud security,” you could link those two pain points. You might say, “With many businesses moving to the cloud, ransomware attacks are becoming more complex and harder to defend against. How are you securing your cloud infrastructure against evolving threats?” AE: That’s a great point. So, I’m layering intent data insights and tailoring the conversation around multiple areas of concern they have.... convo wraps in the comments.

Are You a Value Creator or a Product Pitcher? 🤔 I’m a big fan of podcasts that push me to be better at what I do. This morning, I caught an episode of John Barrows’ Make It Happen Monday, and one question really stuck with me: In sales, are you creating value, or are you just pitching products? It’s easy to get caught up in the daily grind of chasing numbers. But real success comes from focusing on what truly matters—our clients. When you genuinely care about helping them succeed, the 'give a shit factor' naturally goes up, and the 'what’s in it for me' mindset fades into the background. This week, Let's challenge ourselves to go beyond just pitching. Let’s be more intentional about understanding our clients’ needs and delivering real value. I’ve had so many conversations with people about the exact same scenarios discussed in this post. It’s a good reminder & great advice. Never let the conviction of your own self worth go! You know you are good at what you do. Continue to excel the experience & knowledge you are gaining is powerful & you will be able to execute it one day.

Hey #SDRs I've done A LOT interviews this quarter and wanted to provide some additional interview feedback as we wrap up Q2!!! In addition to research and personalized outreach pre interview, 2 things I always love to see : 1 - A resume that is personalized to the company/role. Think through anything you may be able to add to your resume as it relates to the companies Target Market, GTM strategies, growth goals 2 - Any data or numbers you can put on a resume. Even if you're coming from a non traditional sales background - Numbers and Percentages on anything better help us understand performance in previous roles Happy Wednesday!

We’re hiring for a new AE and my direct report here at Offsite. During the most chaotic month we have had in a while. So many people are trying to plan last minute offsites (Someone just asked about December 4th, 2024 EEEK). We’re booking quickly through Q1 and all hands are on deck. I am thankful and grateful that Jared has helped me tremendously, while I am closing one of my biggest deals. At Offsite, we have a team of people who don’t think that a task is beneath them - we all pitch in here. As CEO, Jared has highly strategic priorities, which one can argue can be hiring, but in this phase of the business he’s helped me out a ton by: → Screening resumes for the best candidates. → Initiating first round interviews.  → Being the one man show in TA. I couldn’t be more grateful. With his help I am able to dive into a candidate pool that has been vetted and approved by the CEO. While it may make the hiring process more complex, it means that we are hiring top quality talent here at Offsite. Teamwork really does make the dream work here at Offsite. Often, you’re expected to become a top expert in areas that are poorly explored or entirely uncovered. When I immersed myself in Husserl's phenomenology, I couldn’t focus on anything else for years. I lost ground in other areas of philosophy, but in return, I gained clarity. ➫ People often fear going too far and switch to something new instead. Imagine being the "ideal candidate", receiving the link for a final interview, only for no one to show up to it.    This happened to me recently. I waited 15 minutes in the meeting room and sent polite follow-up emails. No response. Ghosted. Job hunting in today’s market is already exhausting, but moments like these make it perplexing.
